The answer is “yes”, but it’s not as simple as you might think. . .
Background checks are done by searching public records – primarily court records – to see if someone has been prosecuted for a criminal offence.
In the United States, this is publicly available from your State’s local county clerk – and in most states, there’s an online database that you can search directly.
For example, in Florida, you can search the statewide supreme court database directly at http://jweb. flcourts. org/pls/docket/ds_docket_search
And that’s just one site of literally thousands like it in different states, cities, counties, specific court districts, etc.
So the correct and most accurate answer to your question is that there are THOUSANDS of free websites that contain criminal background check information.
My suggestion is that you search Google for phrases like “Florida court records search” or “Miami court records lookup” and so on.
Obviously, apply the state/location to your own area.
